Gratitude and “Free to Love” news

Hi everyone,

I am now two weeks out from my surgery, and by all accounts I am thriving. Happily, I am off all medications (other than my immune-boosting botanical allies) and will be beginning my more definitive treatments next week. Despite the turbulence you might imagine, I continue to feel peaceful, enthusiastic, and happy about all aspects of my life. The outpouring of love and support is of immense value, and though it may take a lifetime or two to respond to all of you who have reached out to me, I want you to know how valuable your thoughts, expressions of love – and brownies! – have been in helping me stay centered and grounded.

In July we begin our Free to Love workshop, and I am looking forward to participating along with the core Chopra Center team. My mind has been in an exceptional state of quietude, and I am eager to interact with the Chopra Center guests and families in hopes that regardless of what may be causing turbulence and stress in your life, I can help bring some measure of peace and tranquility into your heart and soul.

With love,
David

Dear David~

August is here, time to revel in relinquishment, and relish in the
gift of life, lovingkindness.

This month, I commit to discovering, appreciating, owning, and honoring
the gift of life. I commit to sharing my
story of healing, for the benefit of man
KIND.

Your courage, your authenticity continues to transform each person that is gifted your light, your vision. Through your generous sharing of your skills, talents, and experiences, you continue to encourage those of us who have felt discouraged.

Your smile lights up a room, your wisdom and compassionate spirit radiates love.
You are the model of Free to Love, Free to Heal. Committed to Wholeness, we are one.

May this message find you savoring the flavor, textures of wholeness within your mind-body-spirit. May you experience the

Dear David~

Many wonderful, and heart felt thoughts of you and your family during this special time of uncertainty, appreciation and second chances. What a remarkable gift cancer is, though your family or friends may not see it as such.

The transformative powers of this journey are truly remarkable. Through new eyes as a patient; I believe the journey became a blessing filled with spectacular vantage points that others could not clearly understand or recognize. For me, the simple silent acts of random kindness opened my heart and flooded it with a new kind of love and compassion. My heart pulsed with gratitude, softened by the tender gestures of someone placing a warm blanket on my chilled body, a sweet smile from a technician.

Any time I felt I was losing my sense of appreciation, I asked to be taken up to the ward where children with cancer were isolated and sometimes abandoned by their grieving family’s. I would ask to sit in the children’s oncology ward to remind myself how blessed I was to have tasted the times of youthfulness, being a teenager, a young adult, and more. I remember reading story’s to some of the children in between their or my treatments and wanted to share a story with you in hopes it provide you and the reader a gentle reminder of the power of silence.

This story comes from a book entitled The Soul of an Indian, and is a compilation of writings from Ohiyesa. I’ve carried this book throughout the decades during my own healing with cancer. This is one of my favorites.

THE POWER OF SILENCE.

We first Americans mingle with our pride an exceptional humility. Spiritual arrogance is foreign to our nature and teaching. We never claimed that the power of articulate speech is proof of superiority over “dumb creation”; on the other hand, it is to us a perilous gift.

We believe profoundly in silence – the sign of a perfect equilibrium. Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind and spirit. Those who can preserve their selfhood ever calm and unshaken by the storms of existence~not a leaf, as it were, astir on the tree; nor a ripple upon the shining pool~those, in the mind of the person of nature, posses the ideal attitude and conduct of life.

If you ask us, “What is silence?” we will answer, “It is the Great Mystery. The holy silence is God’s voice.”

If you ask, “what are the fruits of silence?” we will answer, “they are self-control, true courage or endurance, patience, dignity, and reverence. Silence is the cornerstone of character.”

“Guard your tongue in youth,” said the old chief, Wasbasha, ” “and in age you may mature a thought that will be of service to your people.”

Silently, I remain humbled by your wisdom, your generosity, your courage, your example.

Blessings to you David, and to our precious family. Heal well!

Looking forward to listening to your own transformative story’s at Journey Into Healing in September.

Namaste,
Deborah Shemesh
